$18,000 will cover the rent for Studio 210 through December 2020 and allow us to re-open once shelter in place orders are lifted. Losing rental income for rehearsals, classes, and performances has put us in danger of losing our home of 40 years.

About

campaign logo

In compliance with city, county, and state shelter in place orders resulting from the COVID-19 health crisis, DSDT's Studio 210 has temporarily closed as of mid-March. This closure has resulted in a significant loss of income as it cannot currently be rented for classes, rehearsals, and performances, and we are looking at several more months of closure. While we have no money coming in, our rent obligations continue to accrue and by December we will owe a cumulative total of $18,000. The building management has offered deferred rent payment, but not any kind of forgiveness or rent reduction.

Studio 210’s 40th anniversary is this year and instead of celebrating we are fighting to keep the space. This is where you come in. We need help from our friends and supporters to stay afloat and we are asking you to donate what you can to help Studio 210. ANYTHING you contribute will be profoundly helpful, allowing us to maintain one of the oldest, and one of the few remaining, dance spaces in San Francisco.

Studio 210 is in the old Sears Building on Cesar Chavez in the heart of the Mission District in San Francisco. One of the first live/work places in SF, DSDT has rented and run this space since the building was converted to Artist Lofts in 1980. Many of DSDT's pieces have been created here, as has the work of literally hundreds of choreographers, teachers, performers, directors, actors, photographers, filmmakers, musicians, and fashion designers. Studio 210 is also home to DSDT's Studio 210 Summer Residency Program. The Residency has been providing free rehearsal space, performances, and professional and artistic mentorship by Slater for two artists/artist groups each year since 2012.

Please give what you can to keep this art space alive and available for DSDT and all the other artists and community members who create, meet, work, and derive sustenance from this affordable sanctuary.

In Gratitude,

The DSDT Team
