King was partnered with Officer Steve Jenkins. Together, they made many searches and caught many bad guys. In late 2018, King was diagnosed with cancer, but with the vet's approval, he kept working until January, when a follow up visit to the vet showed that the cancer had spread a lot. Even so, King showed up for training and searches and looked good, until January 2019, when overnight he took an extreme turn for the worse, and was, sadly and regretfully, euthanized.
King was one of many carefully bred, high end dogs supplied by the Los Angeles Police K-9 Fund to the Los Angeles Police Department K-9 Platoon over the last 40 years. There are currently 24 K-9s in the Platoon, 6 of which search for guns and the balance search for felons. Because of aging, injuries and illness, turnover is high. We have been supplying
