BARRY'S CARES: Direct Relief Fund Responds to COVID-19
Reaching a goal of $50,000 will help Direct Relief build an ICU medication model and mobilizing private resources to build a stockpile to assist with an anticipated spike in ICU patients,
As we navigate the challenges posed by COVID 19, we remain grateful for the support our community has shown to the Barry’s Fitfam. And in an effort to help those most in need, we made the commitment to support Direct Relief, a global organization that provides essential medical items and personal protective equipment to doctors and nurses on the front lines. In addition, we will be hosting dedicated complimentary classes for health care workers and first responders.
Direct Relief is a humanitarian aid organization, active in all 50 states and more than 90 countries, with a mission to improve the health and lives of people affected by poverty or emergencies - without regard to politics, religion, or ability to pay.
Disaster response requires rapid mobilization, but the help must be of the right type. Direct Relief’s efforts are fast, yet always in direct response to specific requests from local partners and are coordinated with other organizations and governmental authorities to ensure the most efficient use of resources.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. This means that the need for protective gear is not only necessary right now, it’s imperative.
In the U.S., Direct Relief is delivering protective masks – along with exam gloves and isolation gowns – to health care organizations in areas with confirmed COVID-19 cases.
In China, Direct Relief has delivered via FedEx over 30,000 pounds of protective gear — hundreds of thousands of N95, surgical masks, and gloves, numerous coveralls, face shields, and shoe covers — to frontline health workers.
Direct Relief is also staging personal protective equipment with regional response agencies across the world, including in the Caribbean and South America through the Pan American Health Organization.
